Suffolk County covers most of Long Island, from Huntington and Babylon in the west to the East End. Moves here are mostly houses, with longer drives and bigger loads than in the City.

    Ten towns, many villages

Suffolk County is divided into 10 towns: Babylon, Brookhaven, East Hampton, Huntington, Islip, Riverhead, Shelter Island, Smithtown, Southampton and Southold. Some areas are incorporated villages with their own rules. If you need to ask about parking or a street restriction, check whether your home is in a village or under the town.

House moves: what takes the time

The biggest time costs in a house move are the basement, the garage, the attic and outdoor furniture. Sort and pack those first. Measure large pieces against doors and stairs. If you have a piano, a safe or a gym machine, tell us when you ask for the estimate.

    Huntington and Smithtown

Both towns mix single-family homes with condos and some co-ops. Condo and co-op buildings set move hours and may ask for a certificate of insurance. Long driveways and steps are common, so tell us about the carry from the truck to the door.

    Routes and timing

New York State closes its parkways to commercial vehicles, and the State Police list the Northern State and Southern State among them. Trucks use the Long Island Expressway and other truck-legal roads. For moves into New York City or off Long Island, plan around bridge and tunnel traffic.

    Licences

Moves within New York State are licensed by NYSDOT (our number is 34875). Moves to another state need a federal licence: U.S. DOT No. 967970, MC-432549.
